Alternaria leaf blight of Sunflower

Symptom

The disease is caused by Alternaria helianthi. The brownish-black, usually interveinal spots occur on the leaves and stem, developing faster on the former, and coalescing to form large black, necrotic areas.  Plants can be attacked at any grow stage, but in the field major infestation usually occur in more mature plants. In very severe attacks the leaves wither and die, stems fracture and seed heads rot.
