The disease is caused by Pseudomonas sesami and infects all aerial parts of the plant. Light brown, angular spots delimited by veins with a darker margin appear on the leaf. Later they become darkbrown to purple shiny spots. The spots often coalesce to form large necrotic areas on the leaves. The lesions advance along the veins and petioles. On the stems and branches, blackish-brown spots appear. Later they coalesce to each other and may extend along the whole length of the stems and branches. Spots on pods are usually slightly sunken, purplish and shiny.
