Damping Off

Symptom

This disease is caused by fungi. Under high soil moisture conditions, water-soaked lesions appear at the base of seedlings and young plants where the stem comes into contact with the soil surface. As the disease progresses, the affected areas become soft and rot, causing the plant to wilt and collapse. In some cases, seedlings die before emerging from the soil. If the disease occurs during transplanting, the roots turn brown, become soft, and eventually rot, leading to plant death. To prevent this, treat the seeds with a suitable seed treatment fungicide before planting, and apply soil fungicide to control soil-borne pathogens.
