White rot
Symptom
Above ground, the first symptom is yellowing and wilting of leaves, especially noticeable during dry weather. In wet conditions, plants may not wilt but become loose in the soil. Below ground, root rot is a primary symptom, and the disease can also affect onion and garlic bulbs. A white, fluffy fungal growth appears on the base of the bulb, and later this growth becomes covered in small, round, black sclerotia. Infected bulbs can become completely rotten and black. Infected plants may easily pull out of the ground due to root rot.
