Neck and bulb rot of onion
Symptom
Neck rot symptom in onions is most commonly observed during storage usually after a period of (6-10) weeks, but infection usually begins in the field. Early symptoms typically appear at the neck region of the bulb, where infected scales become water-soaked, soft, and turn brown. Under humid conditions, grayish fungal growth develops on the decayed scales, with mycelium spreading between the affected layers. Eventually, dark-colored sclerotia form at the neck or between the bulb scales. Secondary infection by bacteria often occurs at these lesions, leading to soft rot development.
