Red Rot
Symptom
Primary transmission is both through soil and diseased setts. The external symptoms first appear as elongated reddish streaks along the midrib of the leaves. Gradually, reddish lesions expand across the leaf blade, eventually turning straw-colored in the center, often accompanied by small black dots. When diseased canes are split longitudinally, a distinct symptom is observed: the internal tissues turn reddish, and a sour odor is often emitted. The presence of reddish and whitish patches on the canes is considered a diagnostic character of the disease. In the later stages of the disease development, the stalk becomes hollow and in its lumen fungus grows luxuriantly with sporulate abundantly.
