Groundnut Leaf miner and binder
Symptom
The groundnut leaf miner is a widespread and frequently serious pest of groundnut and soyabean. The first-instar larva penetrates the epidermis of the leaflet and mines the mesophyll. The mines are serpentine initially but become "blotch". When larvae are larger, into and beyond the third instar, they leave the mine and web together two halves of a leaflet or several leaflets. The first sign of the presence of the larvae is the appearance of brown mines. The leaves of a heavily damaged field turn light brown and drop off the plants- they have a cornflake-like appearance.
