Verticillium wilt

Symptom

Since wilting is a primary symptom of the disease, it can easily be confused with other wilt-related plant diseases. Infected plants typically wilt during the hottest part of the day but may recover during the night. When the lower stems of the plant are cut longitudinally, the vascular tissues appear distinctly discolored, turning brown. A distinguishing characteristic that helps differentiate this disease from other wilt diseases is the presence of V-shaped lesions on the leaf margins. As the disease progresses, parts of the leaf margins and the tissue between veins begin to yellow, forming wedge-shaped patterns pointing towards the leaf veins. Eventually, the leaves turn brown and may drop prematurely compared to healthy foliage.
